With her song “Wildberry Lillet” she became one of the shooting stars of the year: Nina Chuba. I first became aware of her when she performed “Kummer”‘s song “Alles wird gut”. At the time I thought to myself, “Wow, what a great voice! Who is that?”

Nina Chuba is a German actress and singer who grew up in Wedel near Hamburg and began her career at the age of seven as a leading actress in the children’s series “Die Pfefferkörner”. She then had roles in various series and films and was the singer and songwriter of the band BLIZZ from 2016 to the end of 2018, releasing their first EP in April 2018.

In 2020, she released her solo EP “Power” and the EP “Average” the following year. In an interview with Eva Schulz on “Deutschland 3000”, she tells a few messy stories about this time. In October 2021, she decided to focus on German-language songs and released the song “Neben Mir”. Her song “Wildberry Lillet” became her first big hit. Performances at festivals like Deichbrand, the Reeperbahn Festival and Lollapalooza followed.

What I find exciting about her is that she hasn’t really committed herself stylistically yet. Her single “Ich hass Dich” (my favourite song by her), for example, sounds like a Kraftklub song and thus completely different from “Wildberry Lillet”. And “Glatteis” is something completely different again. Her debut album “Glas” is due to be released in February 2023. I’m very curious to see what it will sound like then. One-hit wonder or next big superstar? Time will tell. In any case, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for her and will definitely listen to “Glas”.
